KULAI is ready to play its part in attracting both local and foreign tourists for Visit Johor Year 2026.

Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) president Mohd Fahmi Salam said there are many places of interest within the district.

He added that to ensure visitors continued to make their way to Kulai, the council is working closely with the state government as well as the private sector to organise events in the district.

One of them is Luna Lights Wonderland at Hutan Bandar MPKu, near Bandar Putra, which is ongoing until Oct 27.

The showcase had been held at many locations nationwide but the one in Kulai could place MPKu in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR), said Mohd Fahmi.

“The one in Kulai is the largest exhibition ever with more than 1.6 million LED lights installed.

“We have sent a request to MBR and we are hopeful that MPKu could soon etch its name in the record book,” he said when met after chairing the council’s full board meeting.

Mohd Fahmi said having the exhibition would not only attract visitors to Kulai but also benefit locals, especially families.

The organiser is targeting about 100,000 visitors and based on the response since it opened on Sept 26, it was achievable.

“I was informed that within the first few days, it had already attracted a large number of visitors not only within Kulai and nearby districts but also from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

To ensure locals would not miss out, MPKu is providing some 30,000 coupons for primary school pupils to enter for free.

Ticket prices are RM15 per adult while children aged 12 years and above pay RM8. Entrance is free for the disabled.

Mohd Fahmi added there are about 400 parking bays within Hutan Bandar MPKu, with more than 70 stalls selling food and drinks.

Kulai also played host to the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2024, which ended on Oct 6.

“Kulai was chosen as the final destination in the peninsula by LTdL.

“This was an opportunity for MPKu to show the beauty of Kulai in the prestigious bicycle race.”

Earlier in his speech during the full board, Mohd Fahmi said the Kulai District Local Plan 2035 would be completed by the consultant this month.

He also noted that state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor had carried out a working visit to monitor several projects in Kulai.

Among them was the opening of a shortcut connecting Jalan Merbau Bandar Putra to Taman Cantik.

Another project was the new Muslim cemetery located next to Hutan Bandar Putra, which is 97% complete.

“I would also like to thank Mohd Jafni and also Kulai district officer Fizwan Rashidi for handing over keys to traders under the Housing and Local Government Ministry’s (KPKT’s) MyKiosk programme,” he said

A total of 19 recipients received better and more comfortable kiosks under phase one, while another 31 kiosks would be upgraded under phase two, revealed Mohd Fahmi.
