The “Taman Angkat” programme in seven residential communities in Cheras enables the people to act as the “eyes and ears” of the police in crime prevention efforts.

Cheras district police chief Asst Comm Ravindar Singh Sarban Singh said the programme, introduced in January, had a positive impact as the dissemination of information by local residents could help the police prevent crime and make arrests quickly.

“If we expect the police to control all corners, this is quite difficult as there are many entrances and exits.

“So with the cooperation of the community, it can become the eyes and ears of the police.

“This helps us a lot and these communities know their roles in helping the police.

“Additionally, the crime index is also under control,” he said at the Cheras police chief’s monthly assembly, according to Bernama.

He also presented certificates of appreciation to 20 media practitioners at the event.

ACP Ravindar said “Taman Angkat” involved Perumahan Awam Seri Sabah 3B, Perumahan Awam Seri Pulau Pinang, Taman Midah, Taman Miharja Fasa1, Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Salak Selatan, PPR Raya Permai and PPR Pinggiran.

He said through “Taman Angkat”, local residents would participate in various programmes, in addition to being trained in the process of communicating information to the police by using the right channels.

ACP Ravindar said the programme would continue in several other residential areas in the district.
