Viral video of hawker cleaning wok in drain not from Shah Alam, says MBSA

THE Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has clarified that a viral video showing a trader allegedly washing a wok with drain water did not occur within its jurisdiction.

In a statement Wednesday (Oct 9), MBSA said that immediate action was taken to identify the location of the stall, and investigations determined that it was outside its administrative area.

"MBSA advises the public not to make false statements that could lead to confusion in the community.

"Legal action can be taken against those spreading false news, as it tarnishes MBSA's image," the statement read.

MBSA also warned that strict measures would be enforced against food handlers who fail to comply with hygiene regulations under the Food Handlers By-Laws (Shah Alam City Council) 2007.

The public is encouraged to report any food handlers or premises not maintaining cleanliness through MBSA's SISPA public complaints management system.

The video, which went viral on social media, showed a roti canai seller allegedly using drain water to wash a wok, sparking public outrage. – Bernama
