KAMPUNG Pertanian in Kulai, Johor, has been chosen as the “foster village” of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa through the “Satu Pemimpin, Satu Kampung” (Santuni Madani) programme.
Dr Zaliha said she chose the village as she used to run a clinic in Bandar Putra Kulai and most of her patients were residents of Kampung Pertanian.
“I have sentimental ties with this village.
“Last month, my political secretary went there to meet local leaders, identify their needs and get details on the local demographics,” she said in a social media post.
Dr Zaliha said she, together with Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud and a delegation from the Federal Territories Department, held a discussion with Kulai district officer Fizwan Mohd Rashidi and Kulai Municipal Council president Mohd Fahmi Salam.
Also present were the village head and representatives from the Village Development and Security Committee as well as the Kulai MP’s office.
“There is room and potential for collaboration between PPj and Kampung Pertanian, such as the waste-to-wealth and community farm initiatives that are being intensified in the Federal Territories.
“If properly and systematically implemented, we can raise villagers’ socio-economic status.
“During the discussion, PPj also presented proposals for the beautification of Sungai Skudai’s riverbanks and the potential of turning Kampung Pertanian into a domestic tourist attraction,” said Dr Zaliha in a Bernama report.
The Santuni Madani programme aims to enhance the potential and community capacity of selected villages through direct engagement as well as consultations to identify villagers’ needs and socio-economic challenges.
The programme involves ministers, top government leaders and government-linked companies.
