Sibu is hosting Unity Arts Carnival 2024 to celebrate the best of Chinese, Arabic and Sarawak culture, tradition and food.

Sibu Chinese Calligraphy Society president Hii Pee Long said the event was designed to showcase the power of unity through the arts, by bringing various communities together to celebrate Chinese and Arabic calligraphy as well as cultural performances.

Set for Oct 19 and 20 at RH Hotel, the carnival would highlight how diverse cultural traditions could coexist and enrich one another, he said.

Hii, who is also organising committee chairman, said the event offered the community a chance to unite, share their traditions and explore Sarawak’s rich artistic and culinary offerings.

“We’re proud to unite such a broad spectrum of artistic and cultural expressions in one event.

“Unity Arts Carnival 2024 isn’t just a celebration of art and food but also an opportunity to strengthen relationships between communities,” he said at a press conference.

Key features include a Chinese and Arabic calligraphy competition and exhibition, cultural performances, night bazaar, fusion music concert and artisan market with workshops.

“An indoor night bazaar will be held on Oct 19, from 6pm to 9pm, with free food tastings from various communities.

“The artisan market and workshops on Oct 19 and 20 will feature local crafts and artisanal goods, giving Sarawak’s talented creators a platform to showcase their work,” Hii added.

The event is sponsored by Sarawak Tourism and Sarawak Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry through Dana Mudahcara Warisan, Kesenian dan Kebudayaan Sarawak, with support from the State Library (Sibu branch), RH Hotel and Hidayah Centre Foundation.
