KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has taken swift action to mitigate the impact of flash floods that hit the city Tuesday (Oct 15) morning following a heavy downpour.

The downpour caused overflowing in major rivers such as Sungai Batu, Sungai Klang and Sungai Gombak, according to a statement from DBKL.

It also listed some 11 areas that were affected: Jalan Pantai Baharu, Jalan Parlimen (Bulatan Datuk Onn) and Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Maharaja Lela, Jalan Travers, Jalan Damansara (Underneath the Semantan bridge), Jalan Ledang, Jalan Segambut, Jalan Genting Klang (In front of Shell and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman), Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah and Jalan Sultan.

DBKL said its officers were in the field to assess the situation in flood-hit areas.

“Some of the measures taken include traffic diversion to smoothen vehicle flow.

“As of 10.45am, all the main routes in the city centre were reopened except for Jalan Rahmat which is still closed in one direction.

“DBKL has also activated two static pumps in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah,” it said.

Three portable pumps have also been deployed to drain standing water around Bulatan Datuk Onn, which was also flooded, the statement read.

“Cleaning works around Jalan Parlimen have since been completed while works in Jalan Sultan are ongoing,” it added.
