Sarawak Shell Bhd (SSB) has unveiled its new headquarters in Miri Times Square, Sarawak.
The grand opening of One Shell Square Miri (OSSM) was launched by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
The energy-efficient and modern office building for Shell Malaysia’s upstream operations symbolised a new era of innovation and growth for the region, the petroleum giant said in a press release.
The multi-tenanted office building is owned and managed by Pantai Bayu Indah Sdn Bhd, with Shell as its anchor tenant.
The sustainable and energy-efficient premises is located centrally within Miri Times Square, the city’s business district.
Highlights at OSSM include electric vehicle charging stations, 100 solar panels generating approximately 80,000kWh clean energy each year, sophisticated rainwater harvesting system for irrigation of vegetation at the garden deck, and Sarawak’s first Shell Cafe.
“Our state-of-the-art, sustainable building embodies our commitment to driving progress towards an energy-efficient future,” said Shell Malaysia country chair and Integrated Gas & Upstream Malaysia vice-president Siti Hurrairah Sulaiman.
“This achievement is a testament to the unwavering support of our partners, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to each of them.
“With Shell’s rich heritage in Sarawak, we are excited to build on this legacy and continue our vital role in advancing Sarawak and Malaysia’s economic growth and energy transition from our new Upstream headquarters,” said Siti Hurrairah.
OSSM features low-emissivity (Low-E) glass panels on its facade, which minimise infrared and ultraviolet light while maximising natural daylight.
This innovation not only provides the interior with an abundance of light but also keeps the heat at bay, significantly optimising both lighting and air-conditioning efficiency.
Additionally, OSSM is pioneering a first for Sarawak with its advanced floor destination elevator system.
This smart technology allows passengers to pre-select their floor at a port before stepping into the elevator, streamlining travel and cutting down wait times during peak hours.
Also present at the launch were Shell Conventional Oil & Gas, Integrated Gas and Upstream executive vice-president Peter Costello, senior Sarawak government representatives as well as representatives from Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM) and Petros.
