Struggling Man United will be out to stop the rot

WINLESS in their last five matches in all competitions, Manchester United will surely hope to stop the rot when they host Brentford at Old Trafford this weekend.

Given their ongoing struggles, the Red Devils are under immense pressure to get back to winning ways.

Erik ten Hag, who the club’s top brass reportedly spared from firing in a recent pow-wow, is aware that things need to improve.

He faces additional injury concerns as he prepares his team to face Brentford, with up to eight senior players potentially out.

Having already lost Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw before the start of the season, while Tyrell Malacia is still fighting his way back to regain fitness, ten Hag will be without Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui for at least a few weeks.

Given the lack of options, the defensive line-up pretty much named itself, with Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez as the centre-backs.

Due to the lack of options on the left, Jonny Evans or Victor Lindelof might replace Diogo Dalot, who usually plays right back.

In midfield, Mason Mount, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo would be checked to see whether they could join the squad following their respective injuries.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen should continue their partnership in front of the defenders as summer signing Manuel Ugarte adapts to his new teammates.

Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo could all be starting behind Rasmus Hojlund in attack.

Brentford, at 11th place, are no walk in the park, although they have failed to beat some of the top teams this season.
