Pharmacy’s staff nationwide ready to help flood victims manage medicines

An Alpro Pharmacy community pharmacist provides support to flood victims to ensure they have access to vital medications and health consultations.

WITH the monsoon season approaching, Alpro Pharmacy says it will support flood victims through 300 of its shops nationwide.

In a press statement, the pharmacy shared its pre-flood advice for residents to monitor their surroundings and get situation updates.

“The importance of having disaster supplies is top priority.

“These include long-term medications and first-aid kits packed inside waterproof bags.”

Patients with chronic diseases were advised to visit their nearest pharmacy and bring along their medicines.

“Alpro pharmacists will then be able to create or update records of these patients’ medications.

“Vaccines against dengue fever are also recommended as mosquito numbers rise during the monsoon season.”

For post-flood periods, Alpro Pharmacy advised people to look out for symptoms such as fever, headaches, diarrhoea, muscle pain and vomiting.

If any of these symptoms occur, the pharmacy urged folk to seek quick medical care.

This is because the disruption of sanitation and hygiene during floods could quickly turn inundated areas and evacuation centres into hotspots for diseases like leptospirosis and cholera.

Eye health was also prioritised as eye contact with contaminated water could cause diseases such as conjunctivitis.

“Other symptoms of water-borne diseases are skin rashes or infected wounds.

“Under the company’s Life-saving Medication Care Programme, free medicines will be provided to flood victims.

“Under the programme, Alpro Pharmacy will provide communities free one-time chronic medication supply to cover a period of up to seven days,” it added.

It said that a copy of the police report on the flooding was required for this.

Those who have lost their medicine prescription in the floods could get their free consultation and e-prescription with an online doctor.

Alpro’s pharmacists are certified in minor illnesses service.
