Chinese chamber turns 103

EIGHT Chinese primary schools in Temerloh and Mentakab, Pahang received RM1,000 each from the Temerloh Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry to mark its 103rd anniversary.

In a grand celebration held at the SMJK Hwa Lian hall in Mentakab, over 1,000 guests were treated to a host of performances including lion dance, 24 festive drums performance, fashion show, songs as well as dances while tucking into a Chinese multi-course meal.

Temerloh Chinese chamber newly elected president Datuk Seiko Chew Kim Pong led the swearing-in ceremony for new committee members taking their oath of office for the 2024-2027 term.

Present to witness the event were Pahang Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman Datuk Seri Chai Chow Sang and former chairman Tan Sri Lam Kam Sang, who is also Raub MCA division chief.

In his inaugural speech, Chew said it was a meaningful and historic gathering as they celebrated the birthday of one of the oldest Chinese chambers in the country.

“I am honoured to take the lead and continue this very important journey as we embark on a new chapter and mission.

“Together with the new office-bearers, we pledge to do our best in serving the people and members.

“The challenges ahead will be enormous but I believe that with perseverance and determination, we can overcome all hurdles together,” he said to loud applause.

Chew also urged members to be innovative and keep up with the latest trends and technology to remain competitive.

He reminded budding entrepreneurs to constantly upgrade themselves to meet customer needs.

“We must be prepared for any eventualities and move fast to seize opportunities that open up,” he said while urging members to give their full backing to the organisation.

Chew said with resources depleting, forging strategic partnerships and adopting green technology were necessary.

Mentakab assemblyman Woo Chee Wan, who was also present, said it was no easy feat for an organisation to surpass a century and still be active.

He said the Temerloh Chinese Chamber had served as a platform linking businesses and the government, while highlighting various issues affecting locals.

“Mentakab is a strategic location with a KTM station and the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) now under construction.

“I believe the town can attract more investors who will bring development to benefit locals,” he said, adding that several beautification projects had been mooted to attract tourists.

Newly appointed assemblyman and Temerloh MCA division chief Datuk Henry Wong Tat Chee, who was not able to attend, extended his best wishes while urging the Temerloh Chinese Chamber to continue its good work.
