A TOTAL of 40 students from the B40 group were awarded scholarships to pursue tertiary studies, thanks to QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd and KFC Malaysia.
Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad presented the awards at KFC Edusphere DT Cyberjaya.
He said, “This initiative will break down the financial barriers that often limit access to educational opportunities and ensure that no student is left behind, regardless of their socio-economic background.”
The decision to help B40 students stemed from a desire to uplift the most vulnerable communities, said QSR Brands chief executive officer/managing director Nehchal Khanna.
“By focusing on this group, we hope to create a pathway for young and hardworking individuals to pursue their dreams and shape their future. ”
“With the right guidance, our KFC scholars can guide our nation towards a prosperous and sustainable future.”
The company received 4,764 applications submitted over a two-month period.
The selection process involved multiple assessment stages, including eligibility testing.
Ultimately, 40 candidates were selected based on their academic potential, leadership qualities, critical thinking, creativity and teamwork skills.
Many of the scholars come from challenging environments with limited access to quality education.
“Despite these difficulties, they have shown determination to pursue higher education,” Nehchal said.
“This scholarship provides them with a platform to overcome those challenges.”
QSR Brands supports selected scholars with regular mentoring, resources and opportunities for networking and collaboration.
The fast food chain aims to foster a sense of community among the scholars.
With over RM32mil invested in community initiatives since 2007, KFC Malaysia continues its tradition of contributing to society.
