PREVENTIVE healthcare programmes for seniors will be among the areas of focus next year in Selangor, says Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
"I believe that programmes targeting senior citizens should be done as the nation is moving towards an ageing society come 2030.
"For example, free health screening can be done as part of preventive healthcare, seeking early intervention to their ailments.
"We will look into this aspect and adjust from next year's budget," the Selangor public health and environment committee chairman told reporters during the inaugural Selangor State Public Health Conference 2024 held at University of Cyberjaya on Wednesday (Oct 23).
Jamaliah was responding to reporters about the areas of focus for her portfolio prior to the tabling of the state budget on Nov 15..
"We would work within the budget and also review the performance of 10 to 15 existing healthcare programmes.
"Some are very successful while some of them need improvements.
"But we will review the programmes and see whether to keep or drop certain programmes.
"For example, the Iltizam Sihat Selangor that provides outpatient treatment and hospitalisation benefits of up to RM10,000 per year is popular but it costs a lot.
"We are hoping to invest more on preventive healthcare initiatives," she said.
In the environment portfolio, Jamaliah said the state would focus on the launch of the climate change adaptation centre.
"The centre is very important as it looks into various factors that contribute to climate change.
"We are still setting up and pooling talents for the centre," she said.
