For the second year running, the All Souls’ International Community Church (ASICC) is holding an art exhibition to showcase up-and-coming artists.

Over 20 artists will exhibit some 100 works in the special exhibition entitled ‘My World’ at the ASICC Art Exhibition 2024.

The exhibition is part of the church’s community programme to provide aspiring artists, particularly students and amateurs, an avenue to showcase their works and build their profile.

ASICC deaconess Ruth Ong said, “This is the second year the exhibition is being organised, following the encouraging response last year.

“In our inaugural exhibition in 2023, we had 12 artists who exhibited over 60 artworks. We had fairly good response and sales of the art pieces.”

She added that ASICC was hopeful this would become an annual programme, offering the public an opportunity to appreciate the talents of new artists, and allowing the latter to grow in the pursuit of their passion and build a name for themselves.

“ASICC believes that we have a role to play in nurturing the community around us and build bridges between people,” said Ong.

“We find that art is a medium that is appreciated by many and can help foster goodwill and unity in society.

“This year, we have chosen the theme ‘My World’ as we want both artists and the public to reflect on the world God has given us, admire its beauty and commit to helping in conserving this precious gift,” she said.

Meanwhile, the exhibition organising chairman Datuk Christopher Boyd said ASICC had reached out mainly to students of art schools and colleges in the Klang Valley as well as other interested artists to encourage them to share their talents with the public.

“The response has been good, with artworks of different media such as charcoal, oil, acrylic, graphite pencil and Chinese ink, which will go on display,” he said.

“What is even more inspiring is that we are having artists whose ages range from just seven to over 60 years!”

“These artists have incredible talent and we are so blessed that they are willing to share it with the public at large and offer their works at very reasonable prices.

“I hope the public, especially art enthusiasts, will come and give their support as well as enjoy artistic creations reflecting the beauty of the world,” said Boyd.

He said all the artworks would be available for sale, with most of the proceeds going to the artists.

Part of the proceeds, he added, would be channelled to ASICC for its community programmes.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 10am to 4pm on Oct 26 and 27 at ASICC, No.36-3 & 38-3, Jalan 27/70A, Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur.

Entry to the exhibition is free.
