A SERIES of engaging activities will be held at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, to promote wellness and foster a healthier community.

The medical camp to be held at Dewan Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew of TAR UMT, will take place from 9am to 1pm on Sunday.

Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) Penang chief Lim Jit Fong said the highlight of the event will be free Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccinations for those aged 13 to 25.

“I believe some men are still not aware that they can be vaccinated against the HPV virus.

“In fact, men who are sexually active can benefit from the HPV vaccine. It can help them protect their other halves.

“We encourage those who have not received a HPV vaccination at school or medical centre to get their free shots here,” he said during a press conference at Penang MCA headquarters in Transfer Road.

Lim said other free tests on that day encompass blood pressure, body mass index, Hepatitis B & C (liver cancer test), prostate specific antigen test (prostate cancer screening), clinical breast test, iFOBT (colorectal cancer test) and smokerlyzer (lung cancer test).

“There will also be blood tests, urine tests and pap smears offered free of charge in Social Security Organisation (Socso) packages to those who qualify.

“They must be Malaysians aged 40 to 59, and active Socso contributors.

“For those who are not eligible for the Socso package, they can take up a paid health benefit package offered at a discounted rate.

“For example, the basic blood test is priced at RM50 and for additional tumour markers and pap smear it is RM110,” he said.

Also available are consultations with doctors and on traditional Chinese medicine.

On the blood donation drive, Lim said they were working with Kulim Hospital.

“Blood donors will receive goodie bags provided by six Lion Clubs in Penang.

“About 120 goodie bags will be prepared and they will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis,” he said.

Also present at the press conference were CRSM national medical head Lenny Chan Wooi Jin, Kampung Fettes Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JPKKP) chairman Quah Lean Huat and representatives of various sponsors.

The camp is jointly organised by National Cancer Society of Malaysia, CRSM Penang, Wanita MCA Penang and JPKKP.
