In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Acorn Communications Sdn Bhd hosted a buffet lunch at Menara Star in Petaling Jaya.

The sumptuous spread included the best of local and Western dishes like grilled lamb, nasi goreng and butter prawn.

Present at the event were Acorn managing partner Tony Nathan, Star Media Group (SMG) chief content officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng, managing editor Brian Martin and mStar chief news editor Mohammad Niezam Abdullah.

The highlight of the event was the cutting of a butter-and-chocolate cake shaped in the number “25”.

“We had the luncheon gathering as a way of saying thank you,” said Tony.

“Over the course of 25 years, we have worked with many of the editors here, some of whom we have known since they were reporters,” he said.

In celebrating the quarter-century milestone, Tony recalled pivotal moments for the agency that included handling communications for Transport Ministry when Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was brought down over eastern Ukraine, and crisis management for a local bank in relation to its involvement in the 1MDB matter.

However, he said the biggest challenge was during the Covid-19 pandemic years, but the company managed to do well despite the odds.

During that time, he said, the agency undertook work such as building brand awareness for a client through digital work.

“The sector was one we had spent the last 18 years strengthening,” he added.

Luncheon attendees also enjoyed cupcakes bearing Acorn’s logo and the number 25 in sugar fondant.

Also present to enjoy the luncheon get-together were SMG group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt and Acorn client services director Yogini Singham.
