HUNDREDS of animal lovers flocked to the Pet Carnival at the Auto City Concept Hall in Juru, Penang, which had a range of activities for pets and their owners.
Highlights of the event were Furathon, a mini-marathon for both dogs and cats, and demonstrations by the police canine unit.
State publisher Buletin Mutiara reported that there were also free vaccinations and health checks for cats and dogs, besides pet photo shoots and pet challenges.
The carnival programme included a pet adoption corner, petting zoo, pet fashion show and a “Meow” contest.
Organised by Auto City with Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) as co-organiser, the event was aimed at enhancing community interaction and promoting responsible pet care, said Seberang Perai mayor Datuk Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid when launching the carnival.
He said the carnival was part of the 2023-2030 Seberang Perai Strategic Plan, which was designed to engage the local community in various positive and meaningful activities.
“These activities aim to cater to both pet owners and those interested in adopting pets or learning more about proper pet care,” he said.
The mayor also took the opportunity to remind pet owners about the importance of responsible pet ownership.
“We have received numerous complaints about unlicensed dogs and disturbances caused by pets.
“I urge all dog and cat owners to take proper care of their pets and be responsible,” he said.
Baderul underscored key areas such as basic health care, the necessity of spaying and neutering, and overall animal welfare.
He highlighted the significance of programmes such as Trap, Neuter, Release and Manage (TNR-M), a collaborative effort with non-governmental organisations aimed at reducing the population of stray animals in Seberang Perai.
