House repairs affected by Taman Wawasan landslide complete

REPAIRS to houses affected by the Taman Wawasan landslide in Puchong, Selangor, are fully completed, says Ng Sze Han.

The Kinrara assemblyman said that affected residents could return to their homes starting Friday (Nov 1).

He said the total cost of repairs was RM12.12mil, involving two main phases at the site spanning 0.87ha.

"The cost is borne by the landowner, Wawasan Indera Sdn Bhd," he said.

Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) engineering department director Mohd Ariffuddin Kamari said the landslide was due to the failure of the monsoon drain and not the slope.

He said that permanent stabilisation had been made at the site.

"The scope of work carried out included slope stabilisation, construction of gabion walls and reconstruction of roads, street furniture and drainage.

"MBSJ has also instructed the landowner to check the slopes and drains from time to time," said Mohd Ariffuddin, adding that soil stability remains strong.

"Their improved design incorporates two berms, which will reduce the risk of future collapses," he said.

He noted that the previous design had only one berm.

"For existing slopes, maintenance and site investigations will be required.

"MBSJ will instruct landowners and developers to assess all conditions along the main drainage line from Tasik Wawasan to the Damansara-Puchong Expressway in Puchong," he added.

On Dec 16, 2023, a landslide at Jalan Wawasan 3/9 in Pusat Bandar Puchong, Selangor, swallowed four cars and led to the evacuation of 29 residents from nine houses.
