lack of maintenance on a flyover along Jalan Kepong due to jurisdiction issues poses a problem to motorists.

The flyover is located near the Jalan Development intersection in Kuala Lumpur.

“This flyover is located at jurisdictional boundaries between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Public Works Department (JKR) and Selayang Municipal Council (MPS),” said Kepong social activist Yee Poh Ping.

“I found out that part of its maintenance comes under MPS when DBKL only carried out road paving and infrastructure maintenance on its side of the flyover.”

He said several trees along the flyover were in need of landscaping work.

Yee said this during a press conference attended by engineers from JKR and MPS. No representative from DBKL was present.

JKR assistant engineer Mohd Nazir Ahmad Lasim said a meeting involving all the relevant government agencies will be held on Nov 21.

“The meeting will be held to iron out issues, following which JKR will be taking full responsibility for the maintenance of the flyover,” he said.

“However, we will only be responsible for trees along the flyover if they fall.”

Mohd Nazir added that the flyover road would be paved as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, MPS engineer Ahmad Fathin Zainal said its Landscape Department would undertake landscape maintenance at the site.

Yee also said water would pool underneath the flyover when it rained heavily.

“Since JKR said the flyover will come under their purview, I hope they will send their officers to inspect the water ponding and drainage system here and carry out some improvements.

“We want the relevant authorities to take responsibility and work together for the benefit of the people,” he said.
