SIX needy families in Seremban had a meaningful Deepavali this year, thanks to a property developer’s cheer programme.
IJM Land Bhd gave RM1,000 and food items worth some RM600 to each of the six households in the Negri Sembilan capital.
IJM Land senior general manager Datuk Chai Kian Soon said the programme, which was in its seventh year, was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative.
The Deepavali Charity Cheer Programme, he said, was also the company’s way to spread joy to needy families in Negri Sembilan for the Festival of Lights.
“Each year, we meet families who, due to financial difficulties, are unable to fully experience the vibrant celebration of Deepavali.
“By supporting them, we hope to ease their financial burden and give them the opportunity to join in the festivities,” he said, adding that the food items included cooking oil, festive cookies and other groceries.
Among this year’s beneficiaries was Komathi Nyana Tambi, whose family has faced significant hardships over several years.
After suffering a stroke during the Covid-19 pandemic movement control order, Komathi has been unable to work.
Her husband, who has a prosthetic leg, is also unemployed.
The family’s only breadwinner is the couple’s 19-year-old son who works in a factory.
Another recipient was factory operator Vali Perumal, who has been providing for her two children after the death of her husband due to a heart attack.
IJM Land also extended its support to last year’s IJM Land myHome Programme beneficiary, Komala Tanjoh Maleh, whose family, including two schoolgoing sons, faces financial challenges due to limited income.
Other recipients were Mohana Babu Raman, Kogulabalan Gunasilan and Komathy Arumugam.
Chai said IJM Land hoped the aid enabled recipients to share in the joy of Deepavali with their loved ones.
