THE library of f SJK (C) Chung Kuo in Melaka has been upgraded.
“The library has lots of new books on its shelves and upgraded furniture,” said the school’s headmistress Tee Siew Bee.
She said the transformation had created a more comfortable space for the pupils.
The upgrade was made possible by Datuk Tan Hor Sam.
“Datuk’s contribution of RM108,888.88 towards the renovation has touched our hearts,” she said during the library’s opening ceremony.
Tee said Tan was continuing the legacy of his grandparents by contributing towards education excellence and the well-being of society.
“His kind deed has taught the pupils values like being grateful and helping others,” she said.
She added that beyond books, the upgrade provided a more comfortable space for the sharing of ideas.
Tan said he would continue his commitment to help others, especially through education.
The philanthropist is still active in various religious, cultural, education and sports associations.
The retired lawyer had also contributed towards new buildings for vernacular schools in Kuala Linggi and Kuala Lumpur.
Additionally, he had helped needy students pursue tertiary education as well as provided educational materials to rural schools.
