MORE than 900 electric vehicle (EV) chargers have been installed across Selangor, signifying that the state government is close to achieving its target of having 1,000 charging units by next year.
State investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said Selangor was confident that more EV chargers would be installed following the increasing trend of motorists using EVs.
“Currently, there are approximately 25,000 EVs on Malaysian roads, with a ratio of 41 vehicles to one charger compared to major EV-producing countries like the United States with a ratio of 20:1 and China 2.5:1.”
He believes demand for EV chargers will increase significantly following Perodua and Proton’s upcoming launch of EVs later this year.
“This shows that we still have a lot of room for growth.
“I hope many more units can be installed throughout Selangor soon, in line with the state government’s plan to reduce environment pollution,” Ng, who is also Kinrara assemblyman, said in a press conference at Kinrara Golf Club to introduce the first EV charging station in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong.
He said as Kinrara was a constituency with a large population, there would be more purchases of EVs in the future.
Ng added that the EV charger at the golf club would be able to cater to 20 vehicles daily.
Also present were state rural development, unity and consumer affairs chairman Datuk Rizam Ismail, Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim, Carput Zap Network Sdn Bhd Group chief executive officer Mohamad Faiz Yaacob and Carput founder Eugene Tan.
