Sibu cops slap 66 summonses on motorcyclists for various offences

SIBU police are cracking down on street gang activities and traffic violations through integrated enforcement operations.

During an operation, traffic police issued 66 summonses to motorcyclists for riding a vehicle without registration plates, unauthorised side view mirrors and modifications to exhaust pipes.

The operation involved 36 officers and members from various branches including Sungai Merah and Lanang police stations.

“The enforcement exercise was carried out at locations known for street gang activities and traffic violations such as Jalan Awang Ramli Amit and Dataran Fasa 2 Sibu.

“A total of 25 motorcycles and 30 people were checked,” Sibu police said in a statement.

“Sixteen summonses were issued for riding motorcycles without registration plates and 14 more for not having side view mirrors.”

A 13-year-old boy was among those detained for doing the dangerous Superman-style stunt while riding on the road.

“The suspect was arrested under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. In addition, 17 illegally modified motorcycles were also seized for further action.” ― By ANDY CHUA
