DBKL issues stop-work order on Wangsa Maju condo project

KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has issued a stop-work order on a condominium project in Wangsa Maju due to structural concerns about a building under construction.

In a statement on Saturday (Nov 9), DBKL said the stop-work order was issued after a complaint was received on Nov 7 from PPR Wangsa Sari residents about an explosion that allegedly happened at the condominium construction site.

The explosion reportedly stemmed from a structural failure in Block C of the development.

DBKL investigated the site and found cracks in the structure's shear walls, columns and floors.

There were also units damaged on the 8th floor and above.

DBKL issued the stop-work order under Section 70B(2) of the Roads, Drains, and Buildings Act 1974 (Act 133) to the project consultants.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Shariff told StarMetro that he had directed the project's developer to conduct a thorough investigation into the structural cracks found at the site.

She said once the report is completed, DBKL would appoint an independent third party to review the findings.

"We have given them two weeks to submit the report. In the meantime, I urge the public to refrain from speculating about the incident.

"Initial feedback suggests there was an explosion.

"When our team inspected the site, they found cracks in the walls but it is too early to determine exactly what happened," said Maimunah.
