Revamped ticketing system, better lighting, new coat of paint at Terminal 1 enhance safety and drive city’s socio-economic growth

The refurbished Seremban Bus Terminal, better known as Terminal 1, can spark socio- economic growth in Seremban city centre.

Local government development, housing and transport committee chairman J. Arul Kumar said work to upgrade the bus depot, which was built in 1995, was 80% complete and should be finished by next March.

“The upgrades involve painting the building exterior and interior, and installing lights to brighten up the multi-storey carpark area which used to be gloomy.

“With more modern and user-friendly facilities, Terminal 1 will act as the main transportation hub to facilitate the movement of locals.

“It also has the potential to attract tourists while giving the city centre a new image,” he told Bernama.

He said the terminal would be equipped with an air-conditioned waiting hall, better arranged stalls, cleaner toilets, and more efficient bus departures and arrivals.

Arul said a centralised ticketing system had also been implemented at Terminal 1.

This is an improvement as previously, bus tickets could only be bought from ticketing counters at the depot.

He hoped that the improvements would give passengers a more comfortable travelling experience.

Meanwhile, Terminal 1 Express Bus traffic coordinator Kamarul Salim, 60, said he was thankful for the upgrades being carried out.

He is confident that these will provide comfort and convenience to passengers as well as traders at the terminal.

Kamarul, who has been working at the depot since 2015, described the improvements as relevant since many people –- especially those who commute for work to Selangor and Kuala Lumpur – still use public transportation daily.

“This place is packed from as early as 5am and in the evening, and on weekends, too.

“Once this terminal is upgraded, it will offer comfort and a more organised stall arrangement for the public,” he said.

Rozaini Ahmad, 65, who has been running a food stall at the depot for over 10 years, said the upgrades would help invigorate business.

She was particularly thrilled about the improvements to the toilets and multi-storey carpark which are now safer and more comfortable.

“The toilets and carpark building used to be dim, and even dangerous.

“Now, these are well-lit. This is important as traders arrive as early as 4am and close shop at 9.30pm,” she said.
