Classy graduation ceremony showcases unique creations
GRADUATING students of The Design School (TDS) of Taylor’s University had fashion models showcase their best works on the runway as part of their graduation ceremony.
The event at a shopping centre in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, also featured exhibition booths set up by the students who pursued Bachelor of Fashion Design Technology, Bachelor of Design in Creative Media and Bachelor of Interactive Spatial Design courses.
Singer Melissa Kelvin accompanied by REMINIXX dance crew belted out Better Like This, while beat boxer SooChienyeol’s performance kept everyone upbeat.
The fashion show, the highlight of the evening, had seven Bachelor of Fashion Design Technology graduates show off 42 unique creations.
Among them was Faith Aimee’s collection themed “Heartbreak” that explores a girl’s journey of self discovery through music.
It reflects the healing process within the girl’s imaginary world, showcasing how she perceives herself as a character navigating her emotional landscape.
Dania Mefiana Putri Ong’s creation “Intruder” was inspired by a sleep paralysis experience exploring the haunting beauty of the state by merging the boundaries between reality and dreams.
“Fallout” by Low Feng Yie was inspired by the impact of nuclear radiation, capturing both its destructive power and humanity’s resilience.
Other collections included “Labyrinthe” by Sharon Lee inspired by a mythological tale set in ancient Egypt, “Hush-A-Bye” by Julia Wey Khai Yee capturing the essence of childhood and its dreamlike nature, and Andi Syahnaz Asyira’s “Shades of Cool” embracing the punk rock aesthetic.
At the end of the evening, the Most Promising Designer awards went to Ong and Low.
Their prize involves dressing six front-row celebrities during the launch of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) next year.
“I was initially shocked to learn that I had won. I never imagined myself in that position.
“I am truly grateful for this opportunity and will continue to strive to make those around me proud,” Ong said.
Low said she was excited about the opportunity and added: “It is a tremendous honour to have the chance to design for KLFW 2025.
“I eagerly look forward to the experience.”
