Alongside sharing the joys of Deepavali, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd took mental health awareness to charity homes in the Klang Valley.
Its “Sesama Mara” corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative comprised interactive mental health workshops.
The charity homes were Rumah Kebajikan Karunai Illam in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor’s Pertubuhan Kebajikan Thangam Illam (Ampang) and Persatuan Kebajikan Sri Saradha Devi Illam (Rawang).
The mental health workshop was conducted by certified peer supporter SAPOT Warriors alongside Air Selangor’s Hydro Heroes volunteer team, according to Air Selangor’s statement.
The aim, it said, was to help participants understand and manage their emotions through creative tie-dye clothing activities, adding vibrant colours to their Deepavali celebrations.
This was Air Selangor’s second mental health workshop, specifically aimed at children as part of its efforts to engage with the community and support their mental well-being.
Air Selangor also donated essential items such as groceries, food and household supplies to 83 children from the participating charity homes.
Air Selangor corporate communication head Elina Baseri said, “Each year, Air Selangor takes the opportunity to bring joy and support to those in need, especially during major local community festive celebrations like Deepavali.
“We also hope to touch the lives of the other segments of society with care and social responsibility commitments through the initiative.”
Under the Sesama Mara initiative, Air Selangor has distributed no fewer than 6,335 Boxes of Hope, comprising essential food items for B40 families in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, since it started on June 30, 2020.
Sesama Mara is a grassroots initiative aimed at assisting surrounding communities while strengthening Air Selangor’s relationships with different areas of society, such as local communities, residents’ associations, local authorities and non-governmental organisations.
