THE newly established Sungai Rajang Music Festival (RRMF) is set to provide a platform to showcase local talents, with the goal of making Sibu a centre for artistic expression.
The festival draws its inspiration from Sungai Rajang, symbolising the unification of Borneo’s diverse cultures and communities.
It is scheduled to be held on Jan 18 and 19 next year at Robert’s Wooden House in Sibu.
Sibu MP Oscar Ling said support for local artistes was essential for the growth of the region’s entertainment industry.
“This festival is more than just about music. It represents an investment in creative education and cooperation between the public and private sectors,” he said at a press conference on the pre-launch of RRMF.
Oscar said access to technology and resources had enabled local artistes to reach global standards.
“Creativity flourishes in a community that values art and supports its creators,” he said.
Oscar said festival attendees could look forward to more than just musical performances.
“They will get to be involved in the development of culture in Sibu.
“Every note, every lyric and every dance is a step towards the vision of making Sibu a landmark for culture and entertainment,” he added.
RRMF organising chairman Christopher Ling said the festival would be a celebration of music and diversity aimed at strengthening Sibu’s identity as a cultural centre in Sarawak.
He said the festival was expected to encourage the growth of creative potential and create a space for discussion and collaboration.
“With all the preparations made, RRMF promises to be an experience not to be missed, connecting hearts, minds and communities in one harmonious flow,” said Christopher.
