NINH Binh is one of Vietnam’s most striking destinations for ecotourism.
Located about 90km south of Hanoi, the lush countryside with breathtaking scenery would appeal to those looking to explore the natural wonders of the Land of the Ascending Dragon.
Located within the city and province of the same name is the Trang An Landscape Complex, which was named a Unesco World Heritage Site in June 2014.
The Unesco website describes the Trang An Landscape Complex as “a spectacular landscape of limestone karst peaks permeated with valleys, many of them partly submerged and surrounded by steep, almost vertical cliffs.”
This scenic site was one of the filming locations for the movie Kong: Skull Island.
Visitors can take a guided sampan tour that breezes through gentle waterways, and admire the caves as they glide past towering karsts and intricate rock formations.
There is also the Bai Dinh Pagoda Complex, featuring one of the largest Buddha statues in South-East Asia.
This complex combines both old and new architectural styles, including the old Bai Dinh Pagoda and the newly built one.
Its largest structure, Tam The Hall, houses three enormous Buddha statues representing past, present and future lives.
Nature enthusiasts will enjoy Thung Nham Bird Park, an attraction in Ninh Binh featuring a diverse range of bird species.
Some of the birds that can be spotted here include herons, mallards, storks and flamingoes.
