THE Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) has started rehabilitation programmes for the children rescued from GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) using a special module called the Islamic Education Module.
The module is developed in collaboration with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and the Selangor state Quranic Tahfiz Institutions Association (Pitas).
State Islamic affairs and cultural innovation committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said Mais' agency, the Darul Ehsan Islamic Foundation also provided the children with basic needs.
"The module aims to strengthen the faith and belief in the true and pure Islamic creed.
"Jais and Mais have involved 45 Jais teachers in carrying out the faith rehabilitation programmes for 210 children.
"Mais has also set up a special committee to address the GISB issue, chaired by Datin Paduka Saudah Sulaiman who is also a Mais member," he said.
Fahmi was responding to Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (PN-Sijangkang) at the Selangor State Assembly on Monday (Nov 18) in Shah Alam.
In reply to Chua Wei Kiat (PH-Rawang) on the state's action on GISB, Fahmi said the Jais enforcement division had arrested GISB members from Sept 22 to Nov 1.
"A total of 138 GISB members, 41 men and 97 women, were arrested and will be prosecuted under the Child Act 2001 for offences related to child trafficking and exploitation, as well as the Income Tax Act 1967.
"The authorities had opened 44 investigation papers while Jais has also conducted interviews with 438 children who are victims of GISB, to gain insights into their experiences while being under the GISB group, and to assist in the prosecution of individuals.
"They comprised 266 children in Selangor, 155 in Penang, 14 in Johor and three in Negri Sembilan, aged between 12 and 17 years.
"Of the 231 GISB couples arrested who claimed to be married, Jais found upon checking marriage records through the Malaysian Marriage Management System and other online systems that only 100 of them had marriage records," he said.
