KPJ Healthcare Bhd has strengthened its commitment to environmentally friendly practices in healthcare, with the launch of its Sustainability Policy.
The policy is aimed at setting up green practices across its 29 hospitals.
Introduced during KPJ’s Sustainability Day, the policy focuses on reducing environmental impact through renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste management and Green Building Index standards.
These targets align with Malaysia’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
As part of this commitment, Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 (DSH2) has become the first of KPJ’s network of hospitals to receive the Green Building Index (GBI) certification.
The GBI is Malaysia’s industry-recognised green rating tool for buildings to promote sustainability in the built environment.
The certification for DSH2 recognised its high standards in energy efficiency, sustainable site planning and indoor environmental quality.
It also acknowledged the hospital’s role as a model for KPJ’s other hospitals.
KPJ Healthcare chairman Tan Sri Dr Ismail Bakar highlighted the policy’s significance: “The Sustainability Policy embeds responsible practices into every area of our operations, helping us reduce our environmental impact while upholding the highest standards of healthcare.
“With the GBI certification for DSH2, we are setting a standard for environmental responsibility that reflects our commitment to the communities we serve.”
KPJ Healthcare president and managing director Chin Keat Chyuan said, “This policy directs the group’s use of renewable energy, waste management strategies and green building standards across our hospitals.
“Every member of KPJ Healthcare has a role to play in this journey, reinforcing our commitment to a healthier future for both our patients and the planet.”
The company plans to continue to strengthen its sustainability practices by building on this policy and setting new benchmarks.
It aims to create a healthcare model that prioritises both patient care and environmental responsibility.
