RM203mil of book vouchers redeemed as of Nov 19

CYBERJAYA: Some RM203mil worth of book vouchers issued by the Education Ministry have been redeemed nationwide, six months after the initiative was launched.

This is about 71% of the total RM284mil allocated for the vouchers, for school and university students.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the ministry was confident of achieving its target of having all the vouchers redeemed by year's end.

“We are also actively working with schools and higher education institutions to encourage students to redeem their vouchers,” he said when met during the Perbadanan Kota Buku event on Wednesday (Nov 20).

On May 30, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the move to provide RM50 book vouchers for pupils in Year Four to Six and RM100 for secondary school, higher education institutions and Teacher Education Institute (IPGM) students.

Separately, Wong said his ministry was stepping up efforts to incorporate digital technology in learning and education in schools, especially through the use of the online platform DELIMa.

“A total of 789 textbooks had been uploaded onto the platform, in addition to over 12,000 teaching materials,” he added.
