Brewery’s education fund pours into 12 more beneficiaries

Clini: Carlsberg Malaysia will continue organising the Top Ten for a better today and tomorrow for the communities it engages with.

Top Ten Charity Campaign (Top Ten), a community-building campaign by Carlsberg Malaysia, resumed its 37th year of raising funds for education, with a focus on inclusivity and sustainability.

Themed “Championing Education Today for a Greener Tomorrow”, Top Ten extended its reach to 12 beneficiaries.

These included three schools in Sabah and Sarawak, Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) and Hospital Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.

To address resource gaps in many vernacular schools, the campaign has been providing platforms to raise funds for school infrastructure.

It has also been supporting funds that enable those in need to have better access to education.

“We are committed to continue funding and organising the Top Ten with a greater purpose of brewing a better today, and tomorrow for the communities we engage with,” said Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Stefano Clini.

“The programme meets our pledge for United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) 4 and 13 pertaining to quality education and climate action respectively.

“By driving inclusion and climate awareness in education, we are cultivating a brighter future for Malaysia.

“We invite everyone to join us as we strive to create a positive impact on our communities,” he added.

The Top Ten has been regarded as the longest-running and most effective fundraising platform, with over RM568mil collected for infrastructure and educational programmes for 684 schools nationwide.

This year, the fund had helped 12 schools raise RM17.4mil.

“With the Top Ten, we can continue alleviating financial burdens and opening doors of opportunity for deserving students, thus enabling them to focus on their education and aspirations,” said Huazong president Tan Sri Goh Tian Chuan.

“As with Carlsberg Malaysia, we believe that no dream should be hindered by financial barriers.

“Through this Carlsberg Huazong Education Fund, we are dedicated to providing scholarships to deserving students to pursue their tertiary education,” Goh added.

A highlight of this year’s campaign was the introduction of the Top Ten Green Club aimed at engaging students in recycling and environmental responsibility.

This initiative will be carried out as co-curricular activities in participating schools.

“We are proud to be part of the Top Ten Green Club that will enable us to foster climate-change awareness by empowering our students to take action on recycling and sustainability ideas within the schools’ premises,” said Lahad Datu Chinese Chamber of Commerce chairman Tan Cheng Teng, referring to Lahad Datu Middle Schools in Lahad Datu, Sabah.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh thanked Carlsberg Malaysia for its contributions towards education.

“As a pioneer in fundraising for education, the Top Ten not only performs outstandingly in Peninsular Malaysia but has extended its influence to Sabah and Sarawak.

“All of this would not have been possible without strong support from everyone,” he said.

Top Ten serves as an avenue for promoting local singers too.

The fundraising platform, jointly organised by educational institutions nationwide hosting charity concerts from October to November, features Malaysian artistes Ribbon Ooi, Justin Ng, Fuying & Sam, Nicole Lai Chung Fung, Ash Lu, Geraldine Gan and Vanessa Reynauld.
