SELANGOR has approved 445 housing projects, with 252,894 units, under the Rumah Selangorku (RSKU) 3.0 project as of Oct 31. The policy was introduced in 2014.
State housing and culture committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said of the 445 projects, 128 with 41,196 units were completed and the keys handed over to the buyers.
He said the state’s policy to build enough affordable homes and achieve the goal of “One Family, One Perfect Home” was on track.
“Another 59 projects with 23,224 units are under construction and 258 projects with 188,474 units are still in the planning stage.
“This is to ensure that every citizen or family has a good, comfortable and safe place to live,” he said during the Selangor State Assembly sitting at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor, Shah Alam.
He was replying to questions from Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari (IND-Selat Klang) who asked about the state’s affordable homes policy status.
Borhan said affordable homes were not meant specifically for the poor, but all those who could afford it based on financial institutions’ assessments.
He also said the state had the Smart Rent Scheme aimed at preparing people to own homes.
For the hardcore poor, Borhan said the state had the Prihatin housing aid programme to enable them to have a comfortable and safe place to live.
“The state, through the human resources, poverty eradication, indigenous affairs and minorities standing committee, offers aid for building of new homes and home repairs.
“We have two types of aid, namely home repairs with the cost not exceeding RM35,000 for a house, and the construction of a new house with an area of 61.3sqm with a ceiling limit of RM85,000 for a house, subject to the conditions,” he elaborated.
The Tanjong Sepat assemblyman said applications for aid could be done at the district and land offices or village heads’ office in respective districts.
Among requirements for the aid are that applicants must be a voter in Selangor and have lived in the state for over 15 years.
To be eligible for home repair aid, the applicant’s house has to be dilapidated and unsuitable for habitation.
“Household income must not exceed RM2,000 per month while the applicant’s age must be between 45 and 75, except for persons with disabilities,” Borhan said while reminding that only the head of the household was eligible to apply.
“The applicant’s house must be in a traditional or new village area, and the land could be owned by the applicant or is on temporary occupation licence with permission from the district and land office,” he said.
Borhan said that until last year, the state government had approved applications of 260 recipients for new house construction aid, while 479 houses were approved for repairs.
“In total, 739 recipients benefitted from this programme,” he added.
