PENANG has announced a RM20,000 contribution for the maintenance of the Air Itam War Memorial Park.

State tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai made the announcement when attending the Penang Overseas Chinese Anti-War Memorial World Remembrance Day event at the park.

Paying tribute to fallen heroes, he said the brave individuals had made great sacrifices during difficult times.

“Their contributions must always be respected and remembered.

“They perished while protecting our country, and we deeply admire their courage,” said Wong, who represented Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at the ceremony, before paying his respects alongside the state delegation.

Over 100 representatives from various associations in Penang participated.

The annual event commemorates the members of the armed forces who lost their lives during the Japanese Occupation.

Consul-General of China in Penang Zhou Youbin, who was also present, expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes.
