KLANG Royal City Council (MBDK) shut down an unlicensed car workshop that had been operating illegally in a residential area in Taman Bunga Melor, off Jalan Meru in Klang.
MBDK Licensing Department director Zate Aziana Abdul Rahman said the vehicle repair business located at Jalan Sentosa 41 had been operating without a licence for some months.
“The council initiated investigations following numerous public complaints.
“Our department officers found the workshop not having a valid licence,” she said.
Zate Aziana added that the workshop was operating on reserve land belonging to Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd.
“Complaints came in as the business was becoming a nuisance to residents and causing pollution.
“During a joint operation with the council’s Enforcement Department, we issued a stop-work order and issued two compounds under the Trade, Business and Industrial Licensing Bylaws 2007 for building structures or obstructions in public places without permission,” she said, adding that each compound came with a RM1,000 fine.
Zate Aziana said the council’s officers did not seize any equipment during the raid, based on humanitarian grounds.
“While the raid focused on stopping an illegal business from operating, we also wanted to give an opportunity for such small enterprises to move to proper business places and to legalise their trade.
“We do understand these are challenging economic times.”
Zate Aziana said the workshop operator would still need to demolish all unauthorised structures built at the site as soon as possible, or risk further action under Section 425 of the National Land Code.
“MBDK will continue to carry out spot checks and take strict action against any businesses or individuals found to be violating council by-laws and regulations,” she said.
