Parts of Klang hit by flash floods after late afternoon downpour

PARTS of Klang were affected by ankle-deep flash floods after a one-hour thunderstorm Monday (Nov 25) afternoon that began at about 4.15pm.

Motorists driving or riding along certain roads in Kota Bayu Emas and Bandar Botanic moved at a snail’s pace, even at the main road of Jalan Langat.

Vehicles exiting the main roads into housing areas were in a bumper-to-bumper crawl.

Internet users reported water logging on the main roads, which saw motorists trying to avoid the stretch, causing further traffic congestion.

People on social media urged the Public Works Department (JKR) to rebuild the drainage leading to Kota Bayu Emas at Jalan Pendamar.

Others took to social media to warn people returning from work to avoid certain roads as several trees had fallen where water levels had overflowed the drains onto the roads.

Kota Bayu Emas Residents' Association president Brian ST Raj said as the rain subsided several residents came out to move the fallen trees across Jalan Pendamar.

“One tree had fallen damaging the fence of Taman Bayu Emas’s gated community. Some houses along Jalan Bayu Emas 30A/KS9 saw water inundate their car porch," he said.

A resident at Bandar Botanic also told StarMetro that a tree had fallen across Jalan Cassia Utama, in Bandar Botanic close to the Botanic police beat base.

Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) enforcement department chief Andry Arman Masrom said the Swift Action Task Force (Pantas) team are at the site in both neighbourhoods to help remove the fallen trees.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department had forecast thunderstorms and rain in the afternoon and evening in Klang district.
