FORTY-eight students received laptop vouchers worth RM3,000 each under a state initiative to bridge the digital divide.

The students from higher education institutions in Sarawak’s central zone were the first batch of recipients.

The Free Laptop Initiative received 17,832 applications, highlighting the great demand for such programmes and assistance to improve educational access.

The initiative was spearheaded by the state Education, Innovation and Talent Development Ministry.

The Sarawak government, in providing this educational facility, marked a significant milestone in its continued efforts to support and bolster educational advancement in the state.

The symbolic handing over ceremony took place at the Sarawak Career and Training Fair at Sibu Indoor Stadium.

Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said as Sarawak embarked on its journey towards becoming a high-income state, it was imperative to generate a skilled workforce in support of its development agenda.

“Events like this play a pivotal role in this endeavour, connecting talented individuals with the resources and information needed to succeed in their chosen fields.

“By investing in our human capital, we are ensuring the economic prosperity of our people, fostering social inclusivity and promoting environmental sustainability,” he said in his speech read out by his deputy Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
