Green light for Sarawak road project

Residents in Bawang Assan will soon be able to enjoy better road connectivity.

This comes after a road connecting Kut Muara, Sungai Pinang and Bungan Besar was approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan’s Fourth Rolling Plan at a cost of RM131mil.

In a statement, Senator Robert Lau said the project received approval with funds from the Federal Government.

He was at a briefing by Matu District Office and Sarawak Public Works Department.

The main focus of the briefing was the Sarawak Region Rural Road Project Implementation, which includes construction of a road and concrete bridge to link Kut Muara, Sungai Pinang and Bungan Besar.

Lau said the project was estimated to start in 2026 and take three years.

He called the project timely as the Bawang Assan community in Sungai Pinang and Bungan Besar had longed for better road connectivity.

The road will eventually link up to Rantau Panjang in Sibu, with another two sections to be built.

One of the sections, said Lau, involved Phase 2 of the Rantau Panjang-Rassau Road funded by Sarawak government. Phase 1 of the section covering 6.8km has been completed.
