Over 7,400 receive scrolls at convocation

Ahmad Fauzi advises graduates to do their part in bringing the country forward with the knowledge they have attained.

A total of 7,499 students received their scrolls during Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)’s 68th convocation ceremony in Johor Baru, Johor.

UTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail said the number included 584 people who received their PhDs and 1,352 who graduated with a Master’s degree.

“To date, UTM has produced 232,222 graduates, including 12,450 international graduates from 107 countries.

“For the convocation ceremony this time, we saw the graduation of over 7,000 students, where 1,149 are international graduates from 56 countries,” he said in his speech.

He added that the convocation also saw the university’s former vice-chancellor Datuk Wahid Omar and former Mechanical Engineering Faculty dean Mohamad Afifi Abdul Mukti awarded the title of professor emeritus.

Prof Ahmad Fauzi said UTM’s graduates were among the most sought-after in the country, with many now working in fields that offered good salaries.

“I am immensely proud of UTM’s graduate employability, which has now reached 100%, particularly in the category of graduates with premium income and high skills.

“This achievement is evidence that UTM graduates are future leaders capable of driving meaningful and sustainable change,” he said.

He highlighted that the university had also been doing well on the global stage with an improved QS World University Ranking now at 188, the highest in UTM’s history.

“This achievement reflects the collective dedication of the entire UTM community, from lecturers to students,” said Prof Ahmad Fauzi.

He advised graduates to do their part in bringing the country forward through the knowledge they had attained throughout their years.

“A university not only builds expertise but also nurtures individuals of great determination.

“Always be ready to innovate solutions and bear the responsibility of advancing our nation.

“The doors of UTM are always open for you to return, share your experiences and contribute to meaningful change,” he added.

The convocation was attended by Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, who is also UTM chancellor.
