Coca-Cola Malaysia sets up ‘Dari Botol, Jadi Botol’ interactive booth at Menara Star
PETALING JAYA: Coca-Cola Malaysia is bringing sustainability to the forefront with its “Dari Botol, Jadi Botol” initiative, hosting an interactive booth at Menara Star, from Nov 27-29.
The three-day activation booth aims to raise awareness about recycling, plastic waste management and the circular economy in an engaging and educational manner.
As part of its collaboration with Star Media Group Bhd (SMG) on the Star Next-Gen Eco Innovators programme, Coca-Cola Malaysia’s booth encourages visitors to actively participate in sustainability efforts.
The programme challenged university students to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for managing plastic waste, and the booth highlights the same mission by fostering understanding and engagement among the public and SMG employees.
Interactive experiences
The booth features a range of interactive activities designed to engage and educate.
One of the highlights of the booth is an interactive digital recycling game that invites participants to sort plastic bottles from other waste materials.
This simple yet effective hands-on activity not only educates but also emphasises the importance of proper waste segregation in supporting recycling efforts and reducing environmental impact.
Visitors could also explore the lifecycle of plastic bottles through a virtual reality (VR) experience, which details the circular process of recycling – from discarded bottles being collected, processed and eventually reborn as new plastic bottles – highlighting the “Dari Botol, Jadi Botol” moniker.
The recycling process involves collecting virgin or recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) bottles, before shredding them into PET flakes, converting them into PET resin and then moulding them into new 100% rPET bottles.
The plastic bottles can also be transformed into useful, everyday items – like trendy sunglasses, T-shirts, vests and tote bags – which serve as a tangible reminder of the value of recycling.
This thought-provoking and immersive simulation offers a unique perspective on the value of recycling and the importance of keeping plastic waste out of landfills.
To further engage visitors, a plastic bottle drop-off bin was also placed at the booth to encourage recycling among SMG employees.
Each visitor who brought in one Coca-Cola plastic bottle received a complimentary Coca-Cola drink, while those who dropped off five of any other type of plastic bottle also enjoyed a free Coca-Cola.
By taking part in the activities, visitors could take home a pair of sunglasses and earbuds, both crafted from recycled plastics.
To ensure an impactful and enriching experience, guides were also stationed at the booth to share insights about the recycling process and the importance of sustainability, aiming to inspire visitors to adopt more eco-friendly habits in their daily lives.
These knowledgeable guides helped participants better understand how individual actions, like recycling, can support a circular economy.
Circular economy in action
Central to the booth is Coca-Cola Malaysia’s commitment to sustainability through innovations in packaging and recycling.
Its locally produced 100% rPET bottles illustrate the principles of a circular economy, demonstrating how used materials can be reimagined into new, high-quality products.
These rPET bottles – used for Coca-Cola Original Taste, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and Coca-Cola Vanilla 500ml drinks – are made at the Bandar Enstek bottling plant in Negri Sembilan.
They feature the slogan “Dari Botol, Jadi Botol” symbolising their transformative journey while emphasising the message that every recycled bottle counts.
