Diverse music celebrating Malaysia’s creative spirit at KL Chinatown Festival


Local talents will be in the spotlight at the inaugural festival.

Connor’s Stout Porter is taking centre stage as the music pillar of the first Kuala Lumpur Chinatown Festival that will be held from today until Sunday.

The aim is to support local musical talents with performances that showcase the fusion of traditional and modern influences that define Chinatown’s cultural landscape.

Festival co-founder and director Lim Kok Kean said that by embracing local talent and creativity, the festival also enhanced the city’s cultural landscape and supported the local economy.

“Visitiors can expect an exciting lineup of local artistes, including local indie artistes such Babychair, Tasneem, Straw Lim and Colbie Ong along with deejay and producer Shelhiel and Core Values.

“These performances will be held at various areas in RexKL.

“There will also be cultural performances such as percussion showcases at other areas,” he added.

The festival, co-organised by community leaders and local partners such as the RexKL management, the festival stretches across the entire Chinatown area including Kwai Chai Hong.

It involves cultural and architectural landmarks as well as participation by festival stakeholders.

Building on the success of RexKL’s fifth anniversary celebrations and 2023’s Rexfest mini-festival, the organisers said KL Chinatown Festival would be bigger in terms of both scale and ambition.

Festival-goers can enjoy music performances by local talents and diverse musical influences that celebrate Malaysia’s creative spirit.

Visitors can also check out the Connor’s Shake Corner, Mixology Masterclass as well as Connor’s Foamy Art at Food Fiction in RexKL, throughout the three-day event.

On Nov 29, visitors can check out the Sound Fiction session featuring Allester Shaun, Backlog, Su San and Tasneem.

On Nov 30, enjoy jazz performances by Ee Jeng Trio, Boys That Swing and Mars Armstrong at Food Fiction from 8pm to midnight.

The finale on Dec 1 brings together song performances from Feith Yi Fei, Hao You, How1e and Straw Lim at Food Fiction from 2pm to 6pm.
