DIVERSE artworks by Malaysian artists of various abilities have been brought together for display by Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM).
Celebrating harmony through the arts, the Peace Enabled exhibition is being held at SGM Selangor Culture Centre in Taman Klang Jaya, Klang, Selangor, until Dec 18.
Organised in conjunction with the fifth anniversary of the Ikeda Peace Park, the exhibition features 65 artworks by 11 talented artists from various states across peninsular Malaysia.
Among these artists are individuals on the autism spectrum or with visual impairment.
Through a diverse range of media that include ink, acrylic, oil and digital art, the artists show immense sensitivity and creativity in expressing a sense of beauty and peace.
For visitors, the show is a chance to view a high standard of visual art that has been recognised via displays in local and international exhibitions.
In addition to these, the exhibiting artists also have works in the collection of private patrons and institutions such as Genting Bhd and Malaysia Resources Corporation Bhd.
The Ikeda Peace Park is a 0.08ha public park that was opened next to the centre in 2019.
The idea for the park came about during SGM’s biennial “Run for Peace” that was first held in 2005 at Padang Besar Klang Jaya.
At the suggestion of local officials and community leaders, a part of this field was allocated by Klang Municipal Council for the setting up of the Ikeda Peace Park.
SGM undertook the construction and maintenance costs of the park in hopes that it would be a platform for neighbourhood residents as well as visitors to foster a community spirit.
To-date, more than 360,000 people have participated in the run which aims to promote peace.
Over the past 17 years, mentri besars, MPs, state assemblymen, councillors and community leaders have joined the event.
Soka Gakkai (SG) is a lay Buddhist organisation founded in 1930 to promote peace through cultural exchanges and education based on humanitarian values.
The Peace Enabled exhibition is being held until Dec 18 at SGM Selangor Culture Centre, Lot 23686, Jalan Selampit 29 in Taman Klang Jaya, Klang.
The gallery is open from 11am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays, and by appointment (03-3324 3120) on weekdays.
