Work on Jalan Sentul Pasar to be completed next July

THE upgrade of Jalan Sentul Pasar in Kuala Lumpur is now 50% completed and work is scheduled to be completed next July.

A section of the road was closed off to traffic since July.

Kuala Lumpur advisory board member Andre Lai said ongoing works were intended to address road subsidence in the area.

“This area was once a tin-mining area and its activities have resulted in softer soil conditions, leading to frequent road subsidence issues in the past.

“The contractor is required to excavate the road to clear out underlying waste.

“Once cleared, the area will be filled with soil to stabilise the ground,” he said, during a site visit together with the project contractor.

The project is being carried out in phases.

In the initial phase, two lanes of the four-lane road were closed.

Currently, the two lanes towards Batu Caves have reopened to traffic, while the two Kuala Lumpur-bound lanes are now closed for upgrades.

Lai added that Jalan Sentul Pasar had now become congested due to increased traffic flow from developments in surrounding areas.

“In recent years, many high-rise apartments have been completed and residents from around 10 such properties are using Jalan Sentul Pasar.

“The road will be fully restored once the upgrading project is completed,” he said, adding that the road works would include improvements to the drainage system.

Bernard Chan, who lives in one of the condominiums along Jalan Sentul Pasar, said, “When the initial work was done, the road condition was bad as it was uneven and unpleasant to use.

“But after the upgrades, the road has seen much improvements,” said the 42-year-old accountant.
