The new Trong II Water Treatment Plant (WTP) will replace the current Trong WTP in an effort to address disrupted water supply.
Perak water committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the new WTP would benefit an estimated 18,000 accounts.
“Perak Water Board (LAP) has appointed a consultant for the new Trong II WTP Construction Project (LRA) and the design is currently being prepared.
“This is also in line with the state government’s planned development aspirations, especially the direct impact of construction of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) which will boost economic growth and local development,” he said in reply to Faisal Abdul Rahman (PN-Trong) during the question-and-answer session at the Perak State Assembly sitting at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan in Ipoh, yesterday.
He said LAP was also planning for construction of the new Kampung Gajah II WTP to increase capacity of treated water for the area and its surroundings.
Mohammad Nizar said LAP was also carrying out its pipe replacement programme annually.
He also touched on the lack of clean water supply in Kampung Kelaung and the low water pressure issue in Kampung Jenalik.
He said Kampung Kelaung, located in Sauk, had no pipe reticulation and was included in the Rural and Regional Development Ministry’s proposed Rural Water Supply Project programme.
Meanwhile, Kampung Jenalik received water supply from Sauk WTP which was within a water pressure control zone.
