KOTA KINABALU: Let us bring Yuletide cheer to the less fortunate by donating gifts for them.
A ‘make a wish’ initiative is being organised by the Hyatt Regency Kinabalu here, where it is partnering three charity homes including the Bukit Harapan home for the disabled, to get children presents for this festive season.
"As we welcome the festive season, it is with great joy that we celebrate another year of tradition and togetherness,” said the hotel’s general manager Thor Gervasi.
“Hyatt Regency Kinabalu’s cherished holiday tradition of giving back with our annual ‘Make-A-Wish’ initiative after last year’s success,” he said after hosting a festive buffet dinner for the media and food bloggers here on Monday (Dec 2).
He said the hotel aims to make an even greater impact this year and they hope with this initiative, children from these homes who wrote their Christmas wish down, would see their dreams come true.
Gervasi said a similar programme held last year also proved successful thanks to the generosity of guests and local communities, and hopes this year would be better.
“We have been getting some children to write down their wishes for this holiday season and we have put up their wishes on pieces of paper on our display fireplace and Christmas tree.
“Those who come can check it out, buy what they can and put the gifts with names of recipients under our tree,” he said.
This programme runs from now until Dec 23, he said, adding that there are between 150 and 200 children waiting for their gifts this year.
Earlier during the buffet dinner, he said the hotel kitchen team has set up an array of delightful festive dishes including Angus beef called Thor’s hammer, stewed lamb, roast chicken and other holiday cookies and cakes meant for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
There will be a wide spread of buffet dishes served during this holiday season as well.
