THE inaugural Batik Lestari competition saw 20 finalists putting their best works on display.

These creations were assessed by a panel of industry experts during a fashion show that marked the end of a two-day programme in Kuala Lumpur.

Organised by Securities Commission (SC) in partnership with MyCreative Ventures (MyCV) Group, the initiative was aimed at promoting the artform as well as providing a platform for local designers and brands to showcase their products.

The competition, which ran from Sept 16 to Oct 30, drew 80 entries.

Second and third prize-winners received RM15,000 and RM10,000 respectively.

There were also five consolation prizes worth RM2,000 each.

The winning designs will be featured during next year’s Asean Finance Ministers’ Meetings, during which Malaysia will assume chairmanship of the regional organisation.

SC chairman Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi expressed hope that Batik Lestari would ensure the continued survival of creative and cultural industries.

“This initiative to highlight batik echoes the broader vision of Malaysia, where our collective strength lies not only in our economy but also in our arts and heritage,” he said.

“It helps empower a new generation of talent to carry on their heritage and bring it onto the global stage,” she said.
