THE Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon 2024 on Dec 15 will not only bring a change of scenery but also exciting new experiences.
Thanks to the new starting and finishing point at Aspen Vision City at Bandar Cassia in Batu Kawan, participants and supporters will get to enjoy the area’s diverse offerings after the race.
Many of them can be found at Klippa Shopping Centre, an integrated lifestyle, leisure and entertainment hub which is also the marathon’s title sponsor.
Besides anchor tenants IKEA, Harvey Norman and MR DIY Plus, it also has food and beverage outlets such as McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Tealive, A&W, Kenny Rogers Roasters and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, all located at the drive-thru area.
Within the shopping centre itself are ZUS Coffee, Kejap Food, XiXiang Kaya Kopitiam, China Muslim Restaurant Express, llaollao, Mixue, Gong Cha, Cheezuto, Squid Boy, Leomag Waffle, Coolblog, Chicago Chicken City and another Tealive outlet.
Participants can also shop for groceries at TMG Plus, home and living needs at Harvey Norman, Cuckoo, Natural Signature, LG PuriCare and Yale, or fashion at Dr Specs and Original Classic.
Tech needs are catered to at Huawei, Maxis, Machines and CaseZone stores, while Guardian, Vogue of Wellness Reflexology and AcuHealing cover beauty and wellness needs.
If shoppers are up for more workouts, check out Project Rock. For families with little ones, they can have fun at A+Go Babyland.
The northern region’s first standalone Decathlon outlet has also just opened its doors at the end of October, offering shoppers more fitness and athleisure gear.
Brand experience and communications head Low Kiu Fung said they are happy to sponsor the Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon, as it aligns with their commitment to establish Klippa as the vibrant community meeting place in Batu Kawan and encourage a healthy lifestyle among communities in the northern region.
“At Klippa, we are deeply committed to fostering community engagement and supporting activities that promote an active lifestyle,” he pointed out.
Low said the sponsorship would increase brand visibility and allow the shopping centre to forge stronger connections not just with those residing on the mainland, but also Penang island and within the northern region.
The marathon is an internationally recognised event that attracts participants and spectators from around the world.
This year, over 20,000 participants are expected to take part.
“Its focus on health, endurance and community spirit strongly resonates with our brand identity as a dynamic, welcoming heart and hub of the community.
“We believe in creating experiences that bring people together. The marathon embodies that. It encourages people of all ages to push their limits and participate in a shared, uplifting experience.”
Low added: “Our involvement will indirectly contribute to the local economy too. By attracting visitors, it will boost tourism and create business opportunities for vendors and brands in the vicinity.”
“More importantly, we hope to inspire more people to embrace an active lifestyle and participate in other future, health-related events.”
Besides the marathon, the shopping centre has actively promoted community and health-related initiatives, such as the annual Klippa Art Run which encourages creative expression through physical activity.
There were also Pound Up! Let’s Keep Moving fitness sessions run in partnership with Gleneagles Hospital, to promote high-intensity exercises with restorative movements.
He added: “To all participants, we wish you the best of luck and hope you enjoy every step of this challenging and rewarding journey.
“You’re part of something that symbolises perseverance and community spirit, and we are proud to support your efforts.
“To the spectators, thank you for being part of the celebration too. We invite everyone to experience the vibrancy of Klippa Shopping Centre after the event.”
This year’s marathon will be split into the 42km full marathon, 21km half marathon and 10km open/junior run.
Routes for all three categories will take runners from Aspen Vision City, past Klippa Shopping Centre and onto the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge, before making a turn back.
