A TOWERING 9.14m Christmas tree and several smaller ones glowed at The Church of Immaculate Conception in Pulau Tikus, Penang, during a tree lighting ceremony.

The event, known as the “CIC Christmas Aglow 2024”, was held after sunset mass.

Marking the start of the festive season, it brought together parishioners from 14 groups as well as community members.

The smaller trees represent contributions of the various parish groups.

The themed decorations symbolise the church’s values of ecology, family, society and faith, said parish priest Monsignor Jude Miranda.

He noted the church is more than 200 years old and a focal point of some 3,000 Roman Catholics.

“This celebration is not just about lighting trees.

“It is about illuminating our commitment to inclusivity and embracing the rich diversity that exists within our community.

“Together, we are reminded of the importance of family, the beauty of nature and the strength of our shared values in faith.

“The themed trees serve as symbols of hope and resilience, each narrating a story about the community’s dedication to nurturing ecological awareness, strengthening familial bonds and fostering societal harmony,” he said.
