NGO appeals for donations to help more flood victims

The Salvation Army Malaysia is seeking donations and partnerships with companies and individuals who wish to assist those affected by the floods.

On Dec 3, the non-governmental organisation distributed flood relief packs consisting of essential cleaning supplies, food and personalcare products to 150 families in Dungun, Terengganu.

On the same day, its Ipoh team distributed 30 food packs partially sponsored by a local chicken rice stall to volunteers who were helping to clean up in the aftermath of a flash flood in Fair Park, Ipoh in Perak.

So far this year 350 packs of the same flood relief supplies have been distributed to families affected by disasters in Terengganu, Melaka and Selangor (Sungai Buloh), with RM150,000 spent to purchase the items.

Now, the organisation is looking to assist in other flood-affected states such as Kedah, Kelantan, Perak and Sarawak.

Companies seeking to conduct corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and individuals can donate the following to any Salvation Army centre – household items (such as brooms, floor brushes, cleaning detergents, scouring pads, bleach, large rubbish bags and pails), personalcare items (toothbrush, toothpaste, bath towel, kitchen towel, shampoo, body wash and sanitary pads) and food (dry groceries like rice, noodles, biscuits, canned food, cooking oil, salt and sugar).

Cash donations are also accepted and a tax-deductible receipt can be issued.

The Salvation Army Malaysia’s Christmas fundraising activities for its other charitable programmes will still continue.

However, for now, the organisation will mobilise its emergency relief response to help flood victims.
