Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) wants to bring Dayak handicrafts to global markets.

With this aim in mind, the group organised a study tour to Hanoi, Vietnam.

The 20-member group was led by association president Datuk Alice Jawan Empaling and Sibu chairman Angelyn Uchi Maseng.

During the visit, the team met Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Datuk Tan Yang Thai at the Malaysian Embassy.

This courtesy call aimed to spotlight Dayak handicrafts.

Alice emphasised SIDS Sibu branch’s commitment to using innovative techniques, mainly in weaving.

“This will spot potential partnerships and market avenues that will globalise Sarawak’s crafts.

“By observing how other nations develop their craft industries, we can enhance the quality of our own products and increase export opportunities,” Alice shared.

The group aims to boost the local economy by creating more opportunities for artisans.
